18 Clicks at Kirkistown

Cork Racing driver Micheál Fitzgerald clicked a Top 18 hit racing the super fast Kirkistown circuit, located in the Northern Ireland Ards Peninsula, in the Martin Donnelly Trophy races in the United Formula Ford Championship at the weekend. He raced against a 27 car grid featuring local Northern Ireland track specialists & racing aces from Ireland, the UK, Germany & Indonesia.

Jason Smyth from Cellbridge won the Martin Donnelly Trophy with a lights to flag finish leading home Niall Murray & championship contender Ronan Doherty who now trails championship leader Anthony Amato by a single point going to the last round of the 2026 United Formula Ford Championship finale in Silverstone in October.

Micheál qualified with added speed developed over a few days of well needed advance testing and fought several patient dogfights to bag a purse of championship points to now sit P16 in a 46 car championship table.
