Cork Racing Race Report - Leinster Trophy, Mondello Park
9th & 10th September 2006
Cork Racing Team driver Alan Dwyer and Micheal Fitzgerald had
a very unlucky weekend at Mondello Park.
In the feature Leinster Trophy Race on Sunday - which has been
has been won in the past by Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Eddie
Jordan - Micheal Fitzgerald finished 19th after pitting with engine
trouble while Alan Dwyer crashed out after a tangle with Chris
Tyndall. Kris Loane won the Leinster Trophy Race from Ivor McCullough
and Noel Dunne. The race had to be restarted after a controversial
tangle between rivals Paul Dagg and Dunne at Tarzan which pitched
Daggs Van Diemen RF92 into a multiple barrell roll which he fortunately
escaped from.
On Saturday Alan Dwyer rescued 9th in the Van Diemen RF01 after
being pushed of circuit in the first corner following Goerge McAlpins
crash with Ivor McCullough in Round 11 of the Irish Formula Ford
Championship. Micheal Fitzgeralds Swift SC92 retired with engine
trouble after the opening lap. Paul Dagg won from Noel Dunne and
Kris Loane.
Cork Racing was promoting the Sony Pictures NASCAR comedy, ‘Talladega
Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby', starring Will Ferrell, at
Mondello Park and both cars carried distintive liveries to promote
the film which opens in cinemas on 15th September.
