Cork Racing Alan Dwyer taken out in Formula Ford skirmish |

| Alan Dwyer came out worst in Round 5 of the Irish Formula Ford Championship at Kirkistown Northern Ireland on Saturday. Dwyer was in the middle of an eight car wheel to wheel dogfight when was forced off track to avoid the carnage when championship leader Noel Dunne ran wide at Colonial and took out Neville Smyth. It was a hugely disappointing result as the Cork Racing Team mechanics had galantly replaced a blown engine in Dwyers Van Diemen RF01 just in time for qualifying. In addition the Cork Racing Team had to retire Micheal Fitzgeralds car after he also blew his race engine in testing. However the team was able to take some satisfaction home after the BRDC Golden Helmet final race where Dwyer fought from the back of the grid to finish a brilliant eight even after having to repass all the backmarkers after a brief spin. Paul Dagg Won Round 5 of the Southern Irish Formula Ford Championship from John Ferguson and Robert Creegan in a close finish while Noel Dunne won from Morgan Dempsey and John Ferguson in the BRDC Golden Helmet Trophy final. |
