Dwyer Formula Ford 1600 Alan Dwyer won a fiercely competitive opening race in a Swift SC92 in the Southern Ireland F1600 championship. Swapping places on several occasions with Dubliner Noel Dunne during the opening laps Dwyer eventually took the lead and crusied home to win comfortably. In the process he broke the 16 year old Mondello Park National circuit record for a FF1600. In the second race it was nip and tuck all the way between pole sitter Dunne, Dwyer, McAlpin and Smyth. However Alan's race was ended on lap 5 when he was shunted out of the race by McAlpin. Dunne went onto claim the race honours. "I was very dissapointed to be put out of the second race but I was delighted to win the first race. It was a big bonus to break the 16 year old FF1600 lap record as it was a reflection of how well the car had been prepared" said Alan.
Micheal Fitzgerald Formula Libre Micheal made a very satisfactory comeback to racing at Mondello after a couple of years out of action. He was very smooth and got faster and faster all weekend. The Dwyer Engineering team of Pat Dwyer, Gary Dwyer, Mike Ronan and Jerry Kelleher did a fantastic job preparing the cars over the weekend. |
